Nationwide Card abroad

in Credit cards
In November 2005 we bought a holiday home in Florida and on the advice of this site we took out a Nationwide Credit Card as they don't charge commision. As a "non resident alien" in the US, although we have an american mortgage and bank account we just cannot get a credit card (even a pre-paid one, without a social security number!!??) So this card has been great!! We go over 4 times a year staying nearly a month each time. We put nearly everything on the card so can come back with a balance of up to £5000. I have always then cleared this amount in full on our return and don't use the card again until we go back...........so on and so forth!! Nationwide increased my credit limit up to £10,100 and everything was rosy!! :j
Then suddenly, last month, out of the blue I received a letter from them saying they had reviewed my account and were reducing my limit to £500 !!!! I checked my credit score which was 986 and took them to task.........well what a response!!! They would not tell me the reason for this nonsense or increase my limit to a "usuable" amount, or back down !!
So I cut the card up and told them to "shove it". I've now just been accepted for a Post Office card who also do not charge abroad !!??
So my questions are:
Why did they do it ?
Has anybody else experienced this with the Nationwide?
How can I best get this "shabby treatment" publicised best?
Thank you for reading
