Holiday Insurance Useless after robbery.

We were at Punta Cana airport after our holiday. My wife went through the scanners and had to have her bag searched. The security guard took 2 things out and then spent 2 minutes with his hands in the bag. I was told to get back when I questioned this. We were then let through, we went straight to duty free and on paying realized we had $600 missing. We sat down and thought about the security guy. To cut a long story short I managed to call the Police and airport security who took statements and got them to play back cctv. We found out the guy who had gloves on took off one glove and took money from the wifes purse stuffed it in the glove and put back on. We had to leave without the money because it was evidence. After loads of emails we decided to go through our holiday insurance company who we had kept informed. They are saying its down to us to negotiate with airport security and Police and are not helping at all. Does this seem fair, not to me. What would you do.

Holiday insurance usually cover money that is lost, stolen or destroyed. It will exclude claims due to confiscation or detention by authorities.
Your money isn't lost - its just having a longer holiday than you.0 -
The money was stolen and this was 3 months ago and still none the wiser on the proceedings.0

We tried the embassy but they were not interested because we were tourist. They said contact the tourist board who also are not interested.0

For those, like me, who didn't know, Punta Cana is in the Dominican Republic. I reckon your chances of ever seeing the money again are vanishingly small.0

I agree that`s why I am trying to go through the Insurance.0

As such they have not rejected the claim but will not help to deal with it. We don`t seem to be getting anywhere and just thought that they might help or advise.0

Have you actually made a claim? Or have you just asked for the insurer's help?
If you've made a claim, the insurer should either reject it (and tell you why) or pay (at least some of your losses). If they do neither of those things within a reasonable period, you can make a complaint.
If you've just asked the insurer for help in dealing with the police/airport security, but haven't actually made a claim, the insurer is probably unable to help you. They're not set up for that sort of thing.0
