Hi folks,
I have had my nexus 7 2012 for a few years now and onto my third micro usb charging cable, got the original cable each time.
Nexus wasn't charging today and though the cable or usb ports didn't look damaged, I changed cable for a new spare I had and starting charging normally again. I had only last cable from Sept 14 original asus one from spares dealer.
So I have started to think that though the the micro usb part of the cable may look fine, the constant friction of metal on metal putting it into nexus 7 has somehow caused some sort of variation in shape of micro usb cable that doesn't give a good connection and therefore not charging, is this possible?
If so isn't it wise then just to use a separate cable for each gadget so as to not cause minor variations in mini usb port and prolong the life of it?
or maybe not the reason atall.

Be greatful it's not an iPad or iPhone; our daughter gets through a charger &/or cable for one of those every month!:rotfl:
Tried all types from original through different cables/chargers; no difference.
Of course, it could well be that she just does not take sufficient CARE.
As for some sort of mis-shape etc. - who knows?
TBH I would buy seperate USB plug adapter & usb to micro-usb cable - which is how many bits of "gadge" seem to come nowadays.
Our ereaders, phones & even tablet all came like this & we use (mainly) just one charger for everything.;)0 -
i am still using the original cable for my 2012 nexus without issues.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

The micro usb charging cable for my partners Kobo e-reader failed quite quickly so we now use charger and cable from my Samsung tablet to charge up 2 phones , a tablet and the Kobo without any problems.
The connectors are quite fine so I think being careful when plugging in helps to keep them working.0 -
I've never had to replace any of mine. My teenagers' usb and iPod cables have failed a few times, but they're not always as careful as they should be. We replaced them with cheaper cables/chargers and those lasted better than the originals.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.

Mine last forever, my wife kills them in a few months. I suspect it isn't pure coincidence, but that can of worms might as well stay shut. All I mean is that how you treat a cable has huge impacts on longevity - however they're designed/specified for ten thousand insert/remove cycles so are surprisingly rugged for a few fractions of a penny's worth of components.0
