Is BG Homecare200 worth it on old boiler?

Just moved house and i think the boiler is about 10-11 years old (probably replaced when the extension was done by previous owners), we are considering the HomeCare 200 plan for peace of mind, do any of you have it, and more importantly have you used it?

How did you find the service?

Just get it serviced and then use a local independent RGI if needed. 10 years is not old for a decent boiler.
Reliability has far more to do with brand than age: if it's a Vaillant it might be fine for years, but if it's a Ferolli then cover will probably be essential.

We have it and have used it far too often for my liking. The engineers joke that our boiler shouldn't have so many faults occuring. Wouldn't be without it.

  • I have a Worcester Bosch and initially I had full cover at about £14 a month. In a chat with a local repairer I asked what the most expensive fault it might develop would be. He said a PCB at about £200 so that provided nothing went wrong in the first year, each year after that I would gain about £170. It has been 5 years now without a problem so a good decision in my case.

I doubt if BG will take on a 10/11 year old boiler on Homecare 200, or there will be caveats about spare availability. In any case it will be subject to an initial inspection.

Personally I would also go with a local RGI.
