barclays PPI claim reopened

Barclays wrote to me this week saying my rejected PPI application has been reopened and have asked me to provide employment status the time the loan was taken out, and anything else I can remember when the bank sold me the loan in branch.
When I took the loan I had signed a contracted to start my graduate job on 21 August 2006 and the loan for 3k was approved in May 2006. I was unemployed student but had signed contact for new job.
What do I need to say/suggest to try and get the PPI claim accepted this time?.

Until the start date of the contract you weren't actually employed, so I would say unemployed/full time student.
PPI may have been missold to you because the unemployment aspect of it was unusable as you were already unemployed.0 -
So I will make what you say to me as key argument
1) I was unemployed/full time student.
2) PPI would of been unusable as I was not actually working and would not of been a benefit.0 -

1. It is not an "application" or a "claim", it is a complaint.
2. Stick to the truth and if you have grounds for complaint it is likely to be upheld. If you were unemployed at the time then you may not have been eligible for the cover and in that case your complaint should be upheld, though they may take the line that as you had a contract and a start date you were actually employed. Without having a copy of the terms & conditions it's hard to say for certain.0 -

What did you put on the application form for the loan? unemployed people dont tend to get loans. Did you put you had the job?2) PPI would of been unusable as I was not actually working and would not of been a benefit.
It would have been a benefit as you had signed a contract of employment and started just a few months later.

If you applied for the loan on the basis that you were about to start work and had signed the contract, just not started, you can't then argue that the PPI was miss-sold as you were not working as that would imply your loan application was incorrect - you can't have it both ways. Did you apply for the loan stating you were unemployed or that you had a job? Your PPI complaint would need to match what you put on the loan form.
You need to be honest and explain exactly what the situation was, not look to word in such a way as to get a payout - any lies or constructive wording can be found out if facts contradict you, destroying credibilitySam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
