As an example, I'm currently using Advantix (as my dog is allergic to tick bites and we're in a high risk area) and a wormer such as Milbemax or Drontal

    Just a little heads up.

If you live in an area affected by Lungworm then Drontal isn't effective at all & Milbemax is only effective at increased doses I.E every month & only against one of the four species... Angiostrongylus vasorum.

Fenbendazole (Panacur) is effective against three of the four Lungworm species, again with increased doses.

It seems that none (including Advocate) are effective in preventing Lungworm infection but are used as treatment once the infection has been diagnosed.

Having said that it's all a little confusing as Panacur isn't licenced for A. vasorum treatment in the EU however tests show that it does work well.

Advocate was recently registered for treatment of Angiostrongylus vasorum in dogs in Europe. A recently published efficacy study showed an efficacy of 85.2% for Advocate and 91.3% for fenbendazole, with no statistically significant difference between them.

Well worth looking into if Lungworm is an issue where you live.

Last year I wormed with Panacur 3 x (which is every other dose)

I haven't done it yet this year as I find it a bit of a faff having to get all the different sized sachets to get the right dose / getting her to eat it in her food ..... and I couldn't remember why :o

We're not in a high risk area so not overly worried but I will do her with Panacur the next time (just done her with Drontal)- thanks Paradigm

oh what a sweet pup! I haven't had a dog in years so am not up to date on 'treatments' but was surprised that the vet gave an anti-biotic injection, and recommended so many 'products'. I am sure I have seen flea treatments and wormers that cover ticks fleas and worms in just two formats.

I know that with my cat I just use a spot on flea treatment and one tablet which covers worming issues.

Thanks everyone. Lots to read up on & I will do this week. Her next flea treatment is due 1st May. I'm still on the after effects of the migraine but hopefully in the next few days, I can do some research. I have to take cost into account too alongside what is best for Rosie.

I don't know about lungworm in our area but will check that out too. At present, from reading your replies (before research) I'm looking at Advantix & Milbemax I think.

I do appreciate all your replies, thank you x

Lungworm used to be confined mainly to the south of England but it's basically spread to pretty much the whole of the UK with cases as far north as Scotland.
Some areas suffer less than others, I'm in the North Midlands & cases have been reported but it's not rife...yet!

I don't want to seem like I'm banging on about it but Lungworm doesn't, IMO, get enough coverage. Roundworms/Tapeworms are a nuisance... Lungworms can be fatal if not treated!

    Symptoms...
    coughing
    breathing problems
    reluctance to exercise
if a dog gets a minor injury, like a small cut, it might bleed for longer
    abnormal blood clotting
