Faulty Hard Drive?

I have got an iRiver B30 MP3 player that has started playing up when I try to update music/podcasts on my WIN7 computer.
When I connect via USB I have started getting a 'do you want to scan and fix iRiver B30 (G) for errors' message. I always get back a 'your disk or device was successfully scanned for errors and no problems were found.
The iRiver shows up in 'My Computer' but it will only allow data transfer depending on how it's described. If it shows iRiver with it's hard drive capacity it works but if it shows 'removable disc or anything else it doesn't!
I have reset and reformatted the iRiver bit that doesn't cure the fault.
Any other ideas?

Try on another computer. If you get the same issues it's the iRiver. How old is it?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Wasn't the B30 flash based?
I'd say the memory was starting to fail, must be a good 5 years old now, decent spec too I've seen little to beat it even now.
I've an H340 still going strong, cracking build quality0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I have just tried on Linx 7 tablet and it synched slowly but copied all the files! Sometimes works on the WIN7 but stops halfway.
It must be over 5 years old now but has been great for it's DAB radio, video ,MP3's and podcasts.
It couldn't be anything to do with corrupt firmware could it? It's using EU 1.27. Do you think it would be worth getting a copy of it and reinstalling?0 -

It's a shame iRiver didn't continue their mp3 players.
I understand most people use phones these days but I like having a dedicated player.0 -

I can't find a copy of the firmware on the net so have asked Iriver support in the USA for help.
Because I have had no trouble connecting to my tablet I am beginning to wonder if it is something to do with my WIN7 desktop.
Yes, it does play from the sd card and in fact it is still working very well.......the only trouble I am having is getting the media on to it from my desktop!0
