Lease issues

We are currently selling our ground floor flat of converted Victorian house. There is us and another flat above and we are both freehold ( long lease 980 years).
Regarding our lease we have to maintain drains and upstairs roof. The problem is the buyers solicitor now wants copies of the lease from the upstairs landlord. Is this right and if so how do I obtain a copy
I am presuming it's to confirm re roof but really confused.
So my question(s) are is this normal practice and how do I get a copy legally

It's a cautious approach, and yes, probably to ensure someone is responsible for the roof etc.
Do you know the people upstairs? Simplest solution is to ask for a photocopy and send it to your solicitor. But as it's not your lease you have no specific right to demand it either from the upstairs leaseholder, or your freeholder.
(unless of course you are a joint freeholder as well....)0 -
Thank you - yes we do know them but to be honest not something I would feel comfortable asking for and likewise wouldn't probably want to be asked the question. So legally I cannot obtain a copy is that right ? Also attached to their request was an insurance indeminty ( 215 quid from Aviva that they want US to pay for ) which I think is saying it covers them if the landlord or tenant won't deal.0

Most of the time Land Registry has them filed. You get a copy in the same way as any other document. It used to be difficult to get them but it isn't any more.0

I asked what I need from my solicitor and this was reply
You do not need to do anything regarding the Land registry lease. I have downloaded this from the Land Registry portal we hold.
They require the lease for the upper flat to see the repairing obligations.
Now I am confused. Sorry if I am being a thicker but is this something I can get a copy of or do you think this is the reason why this indeminty insurance quote was attached0 -
