Do you know what the carpet is made from: IE: wool, nylon, polypropelene?
Polypropelene should clean off with white spirits.
Wool and nylon should do the same BUT test in an inconspicuous area first.
If its only sitting on the tips of the fibre you can trim them back, or use a disposable razor and lightly shave the surface.
I have nothing better to do!!!!

Let it dry completely and then rub the area with sandpaper.0
