council tax rebanding - phone call

Had a phone call today from a chap in West Sussex. He has checked my council tax and I am in band B. He says I am paying too much and he is processing the forms to send off so I get a refund and a reduction.
So I said that I would go down to band A. He said yes, so I said I should tell the other owners here on our small estate. In the meantime he should send me the papers to sign.
He said I'm not to tell anyone else. This is only for my house. He got quite angry when I said I will tell the others, especially those in properties smaller than mine because they must already be on band A, so it figures they should go down.
He didn't like that at all and slammed the phone down.

I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.

I've known these companies even hang up on council staff when they don't get the answer they want. These companies cannot do anything you can't do yourself for free anyway.
* unless they get a Disabled Band Reduction which gives a charge reduction to below a Band A property.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

This was a cold call, out of the blue, from somebody you've never dealt with before? He says I am paying too much and he is processing the forms to send off so I get a refund and a reduction.
Uh-huh. And he's doing this out of the goodness of his heart, is he? What a terribly nice chap to volunteer his time for free to total strangers like that...
At what point will alarm bells start to ring, do you think? Before or after you find out how utterly opaque his charging structure is, and how large the end bill will be?0 -
I treat every phone call I get as a scam unless its from family or friends. They don't like it when I answer back. I even told one scammer about his scam and he said its not that scam, it's another. What a dozy fool!I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.
