Insurance renewal

Im just going through an awful situation with my renewal. After researching I got a quote at half the price of my usual insurer whom Ive been with for years. I rang them up to tell them I didnot wish to renew, only to be told that it had already been renewed the day before at midnight. So they wanted 26 pounds. I told them but I dont want to renew but they said they had a right to charge me as it had autimatically renewed. Then told me I couldnt have my no claims bonus evidence until I paid up. I have taken it to the ombudsman now but I wondered if anyone had been through this.Kind regards.0

So you halved your insurance cost but you are quibbling over 25 quid. I'd put it down to experience and remember next time to tell your insurer in plenty of time you will not be renewing with them. I'd also be highly surprised if the renewal invite you received from your insurer didn't explain about automatic renewal and the need to tell them if you wanted the policy to lapse at renewal.
And "awful situation", really!0 -
If you have already complied with the FOS rules (in that you have exhausted the insurer's complaints procedure first before escalating to the FOS) you will still have to wait weeks/months for the outcome (if the FOS do take up your complaint).ALISON_1667 wrote: »Im just going through an awful situation with my renewal. After researching I got a quote at half the price of my usual insurer whom Ive been with for years. Your new cheaper insurer is unlikely to be prepared to wait too long for the evidence.
Maybe consider paying up under protest to get the evidence you need than risk getting your new policy cancelled because you cannot furnish the evidence due to you being in dispute over your unpaid "old" account.0 -
I phone them, tell them they must have made a mistake, perhaps they could make it right. No, but if I can get a better price I should come back and they'll try to match it.
At this point I give them one chance. If I can get a better price I will NOT be coming back, so THIS is your only chance. They never take it, I always move providers.0 -
I always do quotes on comparison sites and then always go to Aviva for a quote. It's usually a little more expensive but you can get TCB of around £70-100, which is very nice.0

This year you arent any of these so the discounts drop off and premiums increase
or to put it another way, if you stay with the same insurer, they will bend you over0 -
Speak as you find, my business policy with Aviva actually came down this year...0
