frugal_mike "Wow that's very aggressive". I was joking. Besides, even if I wasn't how am I being aggressive? Any indication of violence or abuse? Caps lock isn't even on. The phrase in question is "My father has been in the UK whilst making the payments" he is in the UK, has been in the UK, never left the UK, what's so difficult to understand? Where are you getting the idea the account might be offshore, there is no indication of that anywhere in the original posts!
Ah but now it's all clear, I see a plethora of posts by people who think it's funny to start trolling.
Have the internet trolls got tired of mainstream social media and have come here instead?
Marliepanda, if you paid money via paypal in GBP, but instead it was paid in AUD would you not want that investigated? You wouldn't be slightly concerned with PayPal? Also you are aware there is a charge for currency conversion right? I'm sure if you learn English properly, the phrases would seem less strange.
sheramber Does my Dad have a connection with Australia? Why yes he is the Grand Vizier of Australia and inventor of the didgeridoo, but I don't see... wait! That might explain the issue. By gum you might be onto something sheramber! Whilst making payments to this UK based charity, he celebrates this minor philanthropic act by playing the didgeridoo. The sound waves emanating from this instrument must have gone through the computer's microphone (during the payment process no less), altering the currency from GBP to AUD. Problem solved. Sheramber I thank you. Please, take your great knowledge and wisdom and leave this place, for it is wasted here. The United Nations yearns for someone with your abilities. I see a Nobel Prize coming your way.
wealdroam, no the payment was made last month using my Dad's old debit card which recently expired. It was while adding his new debit card to PayPal, to replace the old one, that I saw a payment made in AUD not GBP. The process isn't the issue, PayPal for some reason (which we now know thanks to sheramber's wisdom and guidance) changed the currency to AUD.
I think this thread is dead. Bye.0 -
OP you're right in one thing, this thread is likely dead. You've been rude to some posters for no real reason - most of whom were just trying to help.
We aren't psychic so yes, sometimes we have to ask questions in order to figure out whats went wrong and what possible solutions might be.
If you dont even have the patience to answer questions about it, surely you can't expect others to have the patience to help you.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
If he is elderly and unable to add his own debit card to PayPal, chances are he has made a mistake somewhere and changed the currency.0

Paypal do occasionally have glitches, but I have seen absolutely nothing that suggests this can happen, or has happened to anyone else at all. I can't logically see how paypal can change a currency , unless the accepting site has set something up incorrectly.
I suggest your father phones paypal and gets to the bottom of this.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why would you need violence to be aggressive? You were asked for clarification because of a misunderstanding and you reacted very angrily, then threatened to report the poster. There isn't really anything worse you can do to someone on here than report them, so I'd call that threat aggressive.
I'm sure you were indeed joking, but the humour got lost somewhere along the way.0 -

Why on earth are you sticking up for another poster? The OP was quite clear to me that he clarified his father has a UK bank account and was in the UK when the transaction was made. All he wanted to know was why Paypal paid the amount in a foreign currency. It was quite plain to me but then cynicism crept in and raised its ugly head.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Has anybody thought to call the charity to ask? It might be something they are aware of having happened with other donors.0

I wasn't sticking up for wealdroam, I was explaining my use of the word aggressive. I never suggested the OP hadn't provided the clarification, but was simply pointing out why we should be able to ask questions that the OP thinks are obvious, since we don't know what they know.0
