Hi,
Not really a money saving question but as I know nothing about cars at all hope someone can help. My son has a 1.4 VW automatic hatchback polo registered May 2001. Petrol. His nearside electric window is in need of a new mechanism and we have been quoted £160 for the part without labour. Trying to find a used one but on ebay they're asking questions most people might know but i don't such as is it a 6N or a 9N etc andwhat MK it is (Think possibly a MK 4 but not sure) before i can even look for the part. I have no idea at all and don't want to buy the wrong part.
Thanks for any help. Sorry for being so dense.

Check the cars for sale and see what they say about the MK.
6N2 is 1999 - 2003 so thats yours. If they are asking if its a 2001 car is a 9N
then buy from someone else. The 9N is 2003 onwards and they should know that.
A brand new regulator from euro car parts is approx £75 - £100. Add on an hour to fit it. So £160 for the part only is a ripoff.
New part supplied and fitted for £160 is more like it. Dont pay silly money for used parts.

2001 will most likely be a 6n2 (facelifted 6n).
6n/6n2 have a pair of square-ish headlights.
9n has round headlights with smaller lights in between (like a big lupo).Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Just leave the window done up and don't use it; its only the nearside after all and you can turn on the fan for ventilation. When my son's nearside window went we just propped it up with wood and tie wraps; job done.0

The model code will be contained in the 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number, if in doubt post it up (you can omit the last 5 digits to keep it anonymous) and we'll be able to tell you what the model is.0

I have a 2002 Polo E 1.2 and it IS a 9N model, so there are 9n models before 2003 as quoted above0
