Help opening a business account

Hello
How can I go about opening a business account if the director has bad credit or little documentation.
I don't know much about this but done a little searching and it seems that it seems that it can be quite tough to open an account even if it's just deposits that you want to make.
I went into Barclays after being referred by the formation company, Barclays wanted documentation such as utility bills in the name of director, do they also credit check the secretary.
I have registered a company to takeover an existing (restaurant) business, not sure what the best way forward is to get a business accoutn and merchant account for card payments.
Any help or ideas please.
Thanks

I had this problem with a partner having bad credit (IVA) from a previous business. Natwest and TSB both refused us. In the end he had to resign as a Director of the Company and we went (successfully) with Barclay's. Not sure how much help that is.0
