Please help fight NHBC

I've been in battle with NHBC for over 3 years regarding many problems with my new house. I'm steadily winning but it's a long hard battle. I'm retired so have the time, and I'm not short of money so I have employed a surveyor and a solicitor to help. Younger, busy people won't stand a chance against the tactics of NHBC. I have discovered quite a few things about NHBC that they keep quiet about - the Buildmark policy is not an insurance policy, nor is it covered by the insurance regulatory body - all expenditure is run past the original developer as it comes out of his money. This is why NHBC resists every claim. Would others who have experienced/ are experiencing problems with NHBC please join this forum so I can try to escalate interest. My MP has been very helpful but I would like to get some interest from the Press. Many thanks

  • This is very interesting - we moved into a new house and part of the peace of mind was a NHBC guarantee. However not much after moving in they appeared in one of those consumer TV shows (I forget which now) with people making very similar complaints to you.

This scheme is held up by the building industry as a mark of confidence and it's a scandal that this is really not the case.

I wish you the best of luck in your case - it sounds like you know what you are doing, I hope you can also support others in your unfortunate position.

The NHBC is an industry body - it's made up of housebuilding firms who pay subs to allow it to do what it does, including provide the fabled guarantee. It was set up by, to promote the interests of, and paid for by, the housebuilding industry

it is not a regulatory body, watchdog, ombusdman or customer champion.

Good luck with your campaign against them, but how else would you expect an industry body to run? - like a union, they're simply looking out for their members.
