Family memebr is coming from Australia next week and has asked me to look for some car rental places for two months.
Car is for two adults and a large dog.
Anyone have an recommendations for long termers?
I'm half tempted to say buy a cheap car for £500.

Are they going to stay in the UK all the time - or venture across The Channel - or the Irish Sea?
If going to mainland Europe then the best advice is buy a cheapo car and join the ADAC to get Europe wide cover for only €840 -

I think it would be best idea to buy a car worth less than £1000.
And then use that.
1.2l or 1.4l will do the job for 2 months. And it will cheaper than to rent.
Average rental companies charge £30 per day for a small hatchback.0 -
Only issue with buying a car for a couple of months will be cheaply insuring it for a non-UK resident for the same time. Tax isn't so much of an issue now you can pay monthly for it and cancel easily.
Otherwise, I'd expect buying a cheap banger would be more cost effective than hiring.0 -
They are not going to want to land in Blighty to then go car shopping, for a cheap runabout (that hopefully will be reliable enough for their holiday), then sort out insurance road tax etc!
They will be on holiday so will be wanting the convenience of picking up a newish car, on which insurance, road tax etc. is already sorted.
IMO
Why can they not do their research online? They can do exactly what you would be doing themselves, by looking at Avis, Hertz etc......0 -

Kind of depends what they're like. Personally, I'd love to do that on holiday. It'd be great fun.
And of course, OP may be intending to pre-purchase said banger.0 -
Try northgate, enterprise month or more can also be good.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
There are various comparison sites out there. Holidayautos.com and rentalcars.com spring to mind, but they aren't the only ones.0
