Was just wondering if any one can recommend any first time grows? Espically ones little ones can get involved in (age 5) going to start a veggie plot, not massive but a fair size. Also plenty of room for pots, window boxes etc. obviously will just be building up slowly over the, weeks

Carrots - I've never had a bad crop. Sow some onions near them, I usually do an onion border around the patch of carrots. Onions are really easy for LOs to grow and they stop carrot flies from getting to your carrots - they can't stand them

Should have room for all off those, just need to get it dug out.

Eldest daughter likes any veg or salad type thing. Litually she eat anything. Little one however, thinks greens are for throwing all over the floor or hiding down her top.... I still give them her every day though xx

Thanks for getting us started today Ziggy.

Lovely and sunny here today, it was also our monthly Home Ed meet at one of our areas parks, I counted around 30 families there, possibly more as it is a very relaxed group and the children ranged in age from babies in arms to late teenage.

    Today I will/have:
    Open curtains fully
Close curtains before it gets dark
Turn off lights and appliances not in use
    Meal plan
    B/D from stores
    Soak porridge overnight
    Set DW to run overnight
    Set WM to run overnight
    Check FPL
    Educate children for free
    Entertain children for free
    Read Martins email
Make instant whip for pudding as it has been sitting in the cupboard for a while
Wash hair and leave to dry naturally
HWB for children’s beds instead of heating
LSD - treated us to ice creams at the park, planned in advance
Pack snacks and drinks for the park
Post on this thread for motivation and inspiration
Write shopping list buying only what we need and also making best use of vouchers

    Ongoing projects:
Shredding 10 minutes + 10 minutes I should of done on Tuesday
    Cull 100 emails
30 minutes of sorting through the old filing cabinet
Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

I do the same JOJO my dd6 still needs to try a tiny bit of broccoli every time we have it, the only green veg she will eat without complaining is peas, others I feel is just a token moan, but broccoli is the full works, I wouldn't mind but if I left her to it she would eat just meat and potatoes. DS by contrast eats all vegetable they are among his favourite foods.

Strawberries and raspberries are popular with my small grandchildren, and easy to grow. Strawberries are happy in hanging baskets, the slugs can't get at them. Both come back every year :)

Having said that, my own kids ate literally ANYTHING as long as they could pick and eat it straight away. Even herbs such as fennel, which they picked and ate loads of! Not sure why - it has an aniseed taste, so reminded them of sweets I guess.

    Hi Everyone
Thanks for the thread Ziggy as always.
Hope your head cleared up Carrie?
Jo Jo - I used to be like you ending up awake at 2am, thankfully I dont seem to have night owl itus as much.
Polly - Hope everyone enjoyed the baking session.
Hannah - Hope you had a relaxing pottering about day.
Twiggy - Well done on your early start & housework
Dawn - Hope the little ones were kind to you today.
BB - It amazes me how many people take the epic decision to home educate. I follow a mum of 8 on twitter who has kids ranging from 19 down, and she has home educated them all, and worked! Goodness knows how you all do it, massive respect.

    Where is Foxgloves this week??

Slowish day today at work, seems a quiet week. The change in the weather may change that tommorow. Im not really worried. Have paid my work electric bill today at £313, hate how expensive that is but we dont have gas so the oven being on a lot puts it up. Hey ho.
    8th NSD this month.
    No tips again!
    Cycled around as per usual.
Line dried a load of washing.
Have had to do a load of paperwork & data entry tonight to get ready to hand over my stuff to the accountant for my VAT return. I think I should get about £150 rebate as I've barely traded in the last quarter, up to end of March, but have paid out a lot in getting reopen.
Making a smoked mackel noodle salad for dinner tonight, but first a bath!

    Night all

My head's all good now (I think!)

Having said that, have just had a bizarre conversation with Npower. They emailed my new bill and my direct debit has been reduced to £35 a month, down from £69?! My instinct tells me that this is not quite right, but cannot really see how.

I have been paying approx £70 a month for well over a year, and a similar amount in my previous property. My app tells me that I am actually using a little more gas this year (OH at home in the day and a colder winter).

I called the company and have asked them to up the payment to £50 as I don't want to end up in arrears!

In fact, looking at the bill, it CAN'T make sense. I was £20 in credit when they issued the last bill. After this bill I was £10 in credit, so I am pretty much making the correct payments?

Carrie - glad to hear the hangover has passed!

Bob - yep, that's about it. The people whose house we'd like to buy had a builder round to tell them of they could do what they want to do with her mum's house to make it big enough for them to all live there but apparently they can't. (I'm only guessing but maybe the roof height wasn't high enough to extend upwards or summat.)

They are still looking but there is bog all on the market at the moment (as we well know!) and what there is seems to be priced about £60k more than their road and for smaller room sizes, so effectively they are better off staying put, I would if I was them!

I won't say anything to my buyers but I have a feeling it's all happening for a reason and that eventually they will pull out if we don't find something and I will get a higher offer from someone else. My house went under offer in January (February? I can't remember but definitely not the best time of year to be selling!) and we're now coming up to prime selling season. I will be keeping a close eye on what the one down the road sells for and if it goes for a lot more I will remarket mine. I would feel bad about my buyers but the house is my biggest (only!) asset so I need to be sensible.

    Back again (just had dinner!)

We did a trip to Mr T last night so breakfast this morning was a YS cookie (very healthy, I know!) and lunch was a YS brie and grape sanwich with half price Kettle chips. For the rest of the week I picked up a pack of own brand cupasoups and some cheese and crackers (the Mr T near work conveniently only stocks branded crackers and then sticks a central London surcharge on top of that too) so I'm hoping for some no spend days :)

Dinner tonight was from the freezer and now I'm going to veg on the sofa!

Polly your cooking sounds great I hope you have saved some for the rest of us.

Bob thanks for the support. I don't know how some people cope with HE whether it's large families, health problems (child/ren and or parents), working, running their own business, single parents or a combination of difficulties. Saying that my OH has chronic health problems which at times can effect the rest of us and deter us from planning to much as we don't know how well he will be day to day.

I have done everything on the list with the exception of Martin's email which I am only part way through. I did the shredding earlier but their is plenty left, I would like it cleared but I think if I run the shredder now it might stop ds from going to sleep. The only exciting thing I discovered in the filing cabinet today was my sisters old passport, which I will pass to her when I next see her.
