Advice on buying a house with a nearby mineshaft

Thank you Nic27 it did really help. It's difficult being firstly a first time buyer and most things being scary and then secondly never knowing or hearing about mineshafts before. At several points the developer made us feel a little crazy for being worried over mineshafts but we were a little concerned. After speaking to people already on site though and the good advice on this forum we realised we were worrying over nothing. Fingers crossed though as we have all the paperwork if we have any issues like your neighbours with selling we can speed things up a bit. Better to have a nearby mineshaft you know about (that has been treated), than one that you don't
Now looking forward to moving to Wakefield, were not local but have done some research and spent a long time looking around so hopefully we will love it!0 -
Hi,
I just wondered what if you went ahead with the house and if you/your neighbours have sold their property or tried to sell.
I am in a similar position. I have bought a new build in Wakefield and initially the solicitors advised there were no mine entrances within 20m of the property and I have exchanged contracts.
However, 2 weeks from completion they have told me I am within 20m of a mine entrance. This info has just been given to them by the builders apparently. The builders are saying they have been filled and treated.
The solicitors are not helpful and have said they are not qualified to advise regarding the mine entrances!
And I don't really know what to do
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks x0
