Owe bank money...but do they also owe me?

Hi! After being made redundant last summer, I experienced financial difficulties. I had an overdraft of over £1000, a loan and credit card. I was also unable to pay utilities, council tax and tv license. My finances are now being managed by a charitable organisations who are fee free :j However, after reading about how I go about applying for a refund on the fees I was paying for seven years on my Platinum account with Lloyds, I realise that I may qualify. How would I go about investigating this and would I be able to negotiate paying off my debt with Lloyds through this?

Many thanks

Did you use the benefits of the account, and was the application advised?

Be warned that there have been cases of Lloyds closing customer accounts when someone has tried to claim this back if they've rejected the complaint, which they shouldn't be doing to start with.

    Just a warning.

  • No the benefits of the account weren't used. I was advised this was the best account for me.

Has the FSA picked up on Lloyds practices of closing accounts when a complaint regarding best-selling of the accounts do you know?

    I assume you mean mis-selling.

It has been reported to them, whether they're dealing with it is another matter.

In one case I was personally asked to intervene by the client, and even when this was pointed out to the bank, they didn't want to know. If you had the Sentinel cover with the account, there is now a much better chance that this was potentially missold.

Just my opinion (there is nothing factual, other than the general Sentinel case to support this), but that is something else to use in your argument.
