Getting details of a late pymt off experian from 2008??

Options
Hiya.

This is my 1st post and i should have made it a lot sooner!

When i was 19 i bought a house with now ex partner. We split up and i struggled for a year on my own then i met my now hubby and i put him on mortgage. We then found out we were pregnant and wanted to move. To cut a long story short

I paid off a halifax cc end 07 or beginning of 08 & i rang halifax to say i wasnt going to make min pymt that month as i was paying the cc card in a weeks time. I was told this was fine and no late pymt indicators would be put on my credit rating. I believed this as i had for warned her and was just a kid really.
We had a northern rock mortgage and i tried to port the mortgage. They declined us and told us to check experian. We hired a mortgage broker who then tried n/rock again for us and we got told it was because halifax had put a late pymt indicator on my report. We ended up having to pay about £4k to get out of the mortgage.
In 2009 i took n/rock to the fsa and they went in nrocks favour.
I have just read on this site about claiming back mortgage exit fees so its brought it all back up again.
My question now is should my fight have been with halifax and not n/rock?
So in a nutshell does anyone know if ive realised this too late or is there a way i can get a report from back then? Ive spoke to halifax and they say they have nothing going back to 2008.

Im thankful to anyones advice. I know i have left it a long time but would like to try and do something about this.

Thanks very much

Porting would be at the discretion of the lender. So Northern Rock did nothing wrong.

It's unlikely a single late payment marker would have had any significant effect by itself.

I would let it go. It will no longer be showing on your credit file.

It should have dropped off your file now, has it?

Are you thinking of claiming the mortgage costs from the Halifax? Or just complaining that they said there would be no late marker when there was?

If they reported accurately there is no case. If you can prove they said it would not be recorded then you may have a case, but its over 6 years now.

Personally i would just move on.

Yes it is but didnt know if i could get it again.

I was going to try and claim some of the costs back from Halifax but i dont think i can prove that conversation happened if they only keep things for 6 years..

    You are probably right

You are correct, the Experian Credit Report will show six years of account history, if the accounts is no longer active.

As forgotmyname and zx81 have mentioned, the missed/late payment would have disappeared from your credit report.
If you haven't tried already, if you currently have a CreditExpert membership you can login to view previous generated Credit Reports, you are also able to print them as a PDF format.

    I hope this helps

In terms of the default, while Halifax would have been in wrong in their advice (although it cannot be proved), the default in itself is correct.

At the end of the day, a missed/late payment is a missed/late payment regardless of whether you tell them its going to happen or not - and your credit file reflected that.

Without sound all 'holier than thou' - as it is not my intention at all - mortgage payments are top priority for repayments as it is a secured loan...and the implications of missing payments of this can be so severe. So prioritising a credit card payment instead of a mortgage would certainly not have been a valid explanation/plea to Halifax in the beginning.
