Concerned I might get tangled up in such a long extension cord.

Has there ever been a reported case of someone dying as a result of getting tangled up in an extension cord??

OK, I'm coming around to the idea of a petrol mower. I remember my father used to use one of these, but my concern is that it will just be too heavy - I'm not as young as I used to be!

Also, I have a bit of a slope to the lawn.
Us older ones need self propelled, rotary with a big grass box, preferably Honda.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Must admit, I always found fiddling around with the cord a right pain in the proverbial, it always seemed to magically lay itself right in front of the mower, no matter how logically I tried to approach the mowing "pattern". Which is one reason I'd never choose anything except a petrol mower these days, for anything more than a handkerchief-sized lawn :)

Is there anywhere I can go in Herts to try out a petrol mower on real grass? It's not the same looking in a shop, you need to feel how heavy it is when cutting grass.

See if there is a specialist lawnmower place near you. They will let you have a go and help you far more than any DIY store.

No, but enough cases where people have cut through it and received serious shocks, picking it up afterwards.

Everybody is talking about rotary mower which is probably what you want the blade sits under the mower and spins round cutting the grass by hitting it with the blade. A rotary mower can have wheels at the back or a roller with the roller you get better stripes in the grass. The other type of mower is a cylinder this has multiple blades on a cylinder that work like scissors cutting the grass as they spin. They always have a roller and make perfect lines on lawns not grass!

Petrol all the way. Quick start of key mechanism and self propelled. Hayter have been good for me. Honda are also highly thought of. If looked after, one of these will outlive you.
