Xbox 360 advice on repair

I have just experienced what I have been dreading (and waiting for to be honest) - the red ring of death! After a hardware update which I had to install to continue using live - typical!!!

Anyway, my question is quick - what are my rights? I can send back to microsoft for repair (they are sending me a packing label thingy) but that will take 20-25 working days!

But...

As the console is only about 8 months old can I take back to retailer (Game) and ask for replacement? Will they just send me back to microsoft?

I assume a few of you have experienced this and wondered what is the best, and least painful, way forward...

I am now very sad!!!

I returned mine to Game after 17 months, with the 3 red lights. But, I got nowhere with the store, I had to send them a recorded letter for them to repair or replace within 14 days under the sale of goods act 1974 .This is what trading standards told me to do.
I recieved a brand new one after about 10 days.
However, just a thought, with Microsoft admitting there's a problem, stand your ground in the shop and ask for a replacement stating they sold you faulty goods ,they are responsible for 6 years (Microsoft admitted ALL consoles were faulty) and that THEY are responsible to you......not Microsoft.

Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Return it to the retailer, you have nothing to loose but the sales of goods act means that the retailer is responsible for provideing you with goods of satisfactory quality not the manufacturer. go armed with that info and Game will cave in as long as you can speak to the store manager.

Don't tell them you have been in contact with Microsoft all you got was the 3 red lights, its a common problem and microsoft have increased warrenties from 1 year to 3 year.

Thanks guys - I have just waded through the returns policy on Games website and it says:

"Faulty hardware may be returned for a like-for-like exchange up to 12 months of the despatch date."

Hopefully armed with this and your info about the Sale Of Goods Act, I will get a replacement...
