Halifax woes

Hi
My wife has a halifax credit card which she has not used for over 18months, she has destroyed the card some time ago after paying off the balance and cancelling as she thought. She still recieves statements which shows a credit of just over £5.00.
Her problem is that try as she might she cant get to speak with anyone who will cancel this card account. She does not want to use the account and is concerned that it may be accessed without her knowledge and have an adverse effect on her excellent credit rating.

Any advice please
