Dear all
I am in the wonderful position of being offered my dream job in the West Country. However, I potentially may need to leave my rental London flat before my contract ends on 2nd august 2015.
Do you think the landlord would be flexible?
The rents in the area have increased (again!) since we lived here, and there have been quite a few issues.
I dont want to ask if it will annoy him...

The only way to find out is to ask your LL.

If your LL agrees then it's likely you'll need to pay the rent until a new tenant is found but given that the flat is in London I imagine the property will get snapped up fairly quickly.
Is there a LA involved or do you deal directly with the LL?0 -
I'm sure it would grease the wheels if you helped look for a replacement tenant0

2nd of August is only 2 months away, and I assume you wouldnt be leaving instantly so you would only need to pay the rent for a short while til they find someone.
Just ask.
Our contract ends 10th January 2016 but we will be leaving at end of June!0 -
As we have never met your landlord and know nothing about him, how can we possibly know if he'll be flexible?Brightspark87 wrote: »Dear all

Why should he be annoyed if you ask. He can simply say 'no', but what is annoying about the request?
Of course, if you demand, then yes, he's likely to be annoyed!0 -
Thanks for the kind comments. I didn't want to ask without hearing some reactions first, as he is a great landlord and I don't want to annoy him unnecessarily (with saying we would like to leave early). It wasn't about him as a person but if you all think its a reasonable request.
The 2nd august is over 3 months away and my notice is c3 months but they may not make me work all of it.

That sounds like something you might want to know for sure before ditching your accommodation!0 -

Really?
It's someone else's fault.0 -
If it's a nice, competitively-priced property in a decent area of London, finding good replacement tenants should be about as hard as falling off a log. Certainly worth offering, although of course the landlord would need to approve them.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0
