County Court changing goalposts.

Any advice appreciated. Our tenants have 5 months unpaid rent. Issued possession order, went to court when defendant announced counterclaim. Judge gave them 14 days to submit. When the submitted they 'forgot' to pay court fees. Were then given to 10am yesterday to pay fees or the case WILL be struck out. No payment made. Now court have written to them today extending the time to pay to 28th. Our response to counterclaim has to be in by 27th.

Can the courts do this?

Unfortunately judges have this discretion. Most annoying when you follow the process yourself and keep to the timescales, and the other side pleads ignorance/illness or some similar excuse and gets given leeway.

    But that's life...
