Fake Grass/Outdoor Carpet?

Has anyone fitted fake grass or an outdoor carpet?

Anythings to watch out for?

I've been looking at http://www.grass247.co.uk/ and the prices don't seem horrendous

It's going down on a concrete patio which is about 2x3m

Have you seen Aldi's Thursday Specials, from this week?

    https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thur-23-apr/product-detail/ps/p/artificial-grass-carpet-1/?pk_campaign=uk_product_newsletter&pk_kwd=2015-04-20_17-08

If it's going onto fairly level and flat concrete, this strikes me as a very, very good deal indeed.

Yeah that's what sparked my interest. Compared to the website above Aldi works out quite expensive

Also, aldi is strips, like turf, where as the online company can do one big "carpet"

I just had a chat with those people , the Prarie outdoor carpet interests me , but its very light at 1kg per square meter......so you can weigh it down with garden bits or glue it , but the tub is £55 and personally i might fancy lifting it up over the winter..

Yeah the guy told me not to buy their glue as it's far too much for the space i need, he told me just to buy waterproof glue/sealant from somewhere local instead

It doesn't need to be lifted over winter though... does it?!
  • In my experience the light stuff is too thin, it flaps about in the wind if not fitted correctly (perfectly!), and the dog and kids like tugging at the loose bits. It also felts harsh and unforgiving under foot and can imagine that's even worse when laid over slabs.

I eventually did it properly and took up 3-4 inches of turf and top soil, leveled and compressed hard core (didn't need to do but my garden wasn't level and I took too much off the top!), compressed sharp sand, then a weed membrane and just laid good quality artificial grass over the top.

Had to sweep a few bags of sand over the grass too, just to add some weight.

2 years later its still brand new. Its softer under foot and I don't have to mow it any more. I also went for an artificial grass with a natural look, with brown broken strands weaved into the lush green strands. I think if my garden was luminous green all year round it would look too fake.

Well mines a toss up between decking or fake grass (of some sort)
