O/S Daily Tuesday 21st April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, misty and air feels rather cool. Load of washing ready to go on the line, will do that shortly.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly, so he can ready for school.

Dinner last night was duck breasts, new potatoes, peas and broccolli, with a jus/gravy made with red wine, was lovely. Menfolk all said they needed more meat – but what they had was lovely, managed not to ruin it by over/under cooking it. I then offered them all the last HM xmas pud with custard or rum sauce, and they all had some, so that’s cleared up and no waste, xmas pud still tasted delicious. So feel happier now to purchase and cook a whole duck if I can source one at the right price! Tonight the menfolk are having scampi, chips and peas, I’ll be having salmon fishcakes (these will be HM, as I cooked extra mash on Sunday and will use that with a tin of salmon that needs using up from the back of the cupboard, this is something I haven’t made before but it can’t be that difficult to mix the 2 maybe add some beaten egg to help it bind, and then bake them in the oven or in the halogen, can it?) The hairdresser is coming tonight so dinner will be a bit later than usual.

Work yesterday was a bit strange it was manic one minute then dead the next, but not relentlessly busy the whole time, at least we did get chance to catch up with ourselves. I’m working from my normal office again today so we’ll see what today brings.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

It's a bit grey outside today, no hint of sunshine.

I did the great T shirt sort out yesterday as planned. Not sure whether to get rid of the short sleeved ones or just buy a cardigan. So undecided about them and I do need to cull my wardrobe.

Today I have a hair appointment at 8.45am then an interview for another part time teaching job and have to whizz up to Oban for a day surgery appointment. I've got a troublesome blocked gland on the side of my chest which has been infected twice so it's being excised today. Only having a local so it'll be quick.

Then I'll come back and rest. Off to make my daily porridge. I almost enjoy it now.

    Happy Tuesday everyone.
  • Morning one and all. It promises to be another lovely day, the sun is already up. Yesterday was quite chilly until after lunch and then it was all change and felt really warm. The sick DGD didn't really need to be off school as she was full of life all day! It meant we could go and collect the outgrown bike for DGD10 - chuffed to bits as in really good condition and my friend wouldn't accept a penny for it. In the afternoon I got the trellis up for the clematis as planned too. Mr TA unearthed the BBQ and gas from the garage so all ready now for summer!!

Not such a good day in store today. We have the stress of going to Oncology at St James for Mr TA's Lanreotide injection. This will be his 4th and we can't believe how quickly these months roll round. Prior to his consultant appointment, followed by the injection, he has to have all his bloods done - some of them fasting which means no brekkie for him.

We plan to get the 9.30 train to Leeds so should be at St James' by around 10.30 and he can get his bloods done and then be free to have something to eat and drink prior to the Consultant appointment at 12.30. (If this is par for the course we should get in around 2.00 as the clinics always run way behind. Book, drink and snack will be in my bag in readiness for the wait!)

If we are lucky we should finally be back home by about 5.30 so a long day ahead. I'll book a taxi to take us to the station shortly. It'll be an easy tea when we get home as I'm sure I won't feel like cooking. Probably Scampi, oven chips and peas as I always have a supply in the freezer for a quick meal.

Hugs to all in need (((((((((( BIG HUG)))))))) and I hope today is a better day for ELONA and CSARINA's DHs. Take care all xxxx

nmlc, my hubby doesn't think he has enough meat unless he has half a cow on his plate.
I'm off to work today, yesterday was a nightmare, both machines damaged, no paper & my pc password had been changed & no-one could remember what to!
On the up side the IT bod did increase my screen size within 10 minutes of being asked (he usually takes weeks to get anything done)
Time I got a wriggle on.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

Heading off with our caravan for a few days today, all loaded with enough home made bread, cake and biscuits, plus a couple of frozen dinners.

We always take the flask out with us too for a quick cuppa.

Found a site overlooking a steam railway, which also offers free range eggs and honey from their own hives, can't be bad!

Bikes loaded for a ride along the pathway between Bristol and Bath, got to work off the cake.....

Hugs to all those in need

Lovely and sunny here, just about to put the washing on the line. Got my big winter coat washed and dried outside yesterday which is a bonus, I can now put it away clean.

Work seemed like a really long day yesterday, hope today goes in quicker.

I lit the stove last night for the first time and had a small fire, it works fine but the smell was quite overpowering, had to open a window. I was told it would smell for the first few times we used it.

Spilt water from the kettle over the gas hob last night and the water must have gone down one of the controls, the hob kept ticking with the igniter trying to light the rings! This went on for a couple of hours, I got the hair dryer to help it dry but it was beginning to drive me nuts, also couldn't find the switch that isolates the hob so need to have that looked at. It eventually went off about 9.30, couldn't have gone to bed knowing that was ticking away.
I actually thought it was dirty to start with so cleaned it and got a shock!

Belated birthday wishes to Lame Wolf, hope you had a super day.

Hope the poorlies are feeling better, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I had a very mixed day yesterday in the end. Slimming World was fine although I was a bit horrified to learn I was the heaviest I have ever been but I'm not going to dwell on it and just get on with it. I had a good laugh with my sister and had a cuddle with Milo so that was fun. In the afternoon I had to go and see my new psychiatrist and that did not go well. He was a very small, intense and creepy individual with long greasy hair that hadn't seen a brush for a few days. He say opposite me and stared at me for a while and then told me what new medication I would be on, no discussion or choice. I am very very unhappy with the situation and feel like withdrawing myself from the whole mental health services.

I had a cup of tea with my friend afterwards and had a whinge to her about it all which helped a bit but I am so sick of being treated like a moron by these so called professionals....and breathe!

I wanted to send hugs to TravellingAbuela and her DH as it sounds like a pretty stressful day coming up. I hope it all goes well and the injection works without too many horrible side-effects. Hugs also to Elona, I admire your strength in such a difficult time for you all, and also csarina, I can only echo what has already been said to you about looking after yourself as well as your DH. It is very easy to burn yourself out.

I hope everyone manages to have a good day whatever they are up to, take care xx
  • Good Morning everyone, another lovely day here with blue sky and sunshine and is due to warm up possibly to 20, lovely!

I'm off to Zebra sit today, but only to collect him from nursery as his dad has another conference and I'll stay overnight with them and come back tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing him again, he's always grown taller even if it's only been a few weeks also looking forward to bathtime with him, he sooooo loves playing in the water!

Have yourselves a good day all, Lyn xxx.

TA I hope the day goes as smoothly as possible for you and your DH and that he can get his bloods done quickly so that he can eat. Things always look brighter after that.

Dumpling glad SW went OK, but your new psychiatrist sounds very off putting. I was lucky when my anxiety was severe to have a lovely GP who gave me choices and suggestions but didn't mandate or push meds (I would have refused anyway) and it was time and a short course of mindfulness which helped me back to the stage when I can go to work and carry on with my daily life reasonably normally though something like thinking about a holiday away from home still sends me into a panic. There are plenty of mindfulness books available from the library or online if you wanted to try something away from mental health services, and colouring books seem to be the in thing as they help you relax and take you away from your stress/anxiety as well as being good fun. Have a go lol. I would kick that particular psychiatrist into touch!

Sun is out again, hope to get more done in garden before I go back to work next week, also more decluttering around the house plus cakes to make and freeze for a charity bake sale next week when I won't have time to bake.

Have a good day all and hope elona andcsarina DHs have a good day.

    Lyn have fun with Zebra

    Morning all,

Beautiful bright day here again shame I am off to work ! Back to the nicer site today and I don't start till nine to a bit of a lay in for me this morning.

Dinner tonight will be some gnocchi with a tomato / mushroom sauce and some hm garlic bread ( still wading through the huge box of mushooms !)

Need to do a wash tonight and will have a sweep / mop of the kitchen floor as something sticky has been spilt on it, no one will confess to it !!!!! and there is only OH and I living here :rotfl:

Elona I do hope the district nurses and McMillan ones take the pressure off a bit, don't worry about the housework, big hugs to you and your DH xx
