I know. When I sent the message asking about the watches, the first reply was from Amazon Marketplace - they thought I was enquiring about becoming a seller. There isn't really an easy way to make a general complaint about their selling practices - try it if you have the inclination and you'll see. I sent it again and that is the substance of the reply (with personal identifying stuff deleted), from sellers-support-reply@amazon.co.uk .

Anyway, I made my point, which is the best you can expect. If they want to adopt the "Officer's Club" business model I'm sure they know what they're doing.
