Why not just take it to small claims. The cheque bounced- you have proof it did.

Might be preferable to a kicking from his squaddie mates (you have no idea what tale he could spin them) or getting arrested for harrassment or worse.

What has changed since you wrote this ? Did you speak to a solicitor or the MOD about the misrepresentation (I believe they consider bringing the army into disrepute very seriously )?

Notrichatall and sheramber - I am not sure what driving 4 hours to knock on his door would achieve? He may not be there, he probably won't have the cash, he would probably refuse to give me the pup ... just would lead to confrontation. Ok I would hopefully get to see the pup, but I can see photos of her on f/b in her training sessions and at home so yes he still has her and she is ok, but I worry because I no longer trust him. If he lived nearer I would have been round many times by now, but the reality is this distance is a barrier.

And then what? Any action he takes during a visit is very likely to get him arrested or injured.

Since when did attempting to talk to someone automatically do this?
There is an animal involved here, and it's welfare counts too.
I applaud the op for trying to find out what's happening, obviously I'm sure he's aware he needs to be careful.
It may well be worth covering his back too and letting the police know what he's going to do , and the rspca ( for what that's worth)

Or he might..hope he's still got the dog and it's ok

Pretty clear that the OP is far more concerned about their money than the dog. What kind of breeder sells a dog without any background checks?

I get the impression the OP is not going on a 5 hour drive just for a chat!

The only 'right' way to do this is via the small claims court.

Be that as it may, I'll be glad to see someone check up the dog is ok, whatever it took to get to this point.

What happened regarding all the advice you received before - the letters before action and the moneyclaim online. Much easier, cheaper, and fewer black eyes than a face to face.
