Can I get hold of a final bill from Dec 06?

Hi everyone,
I changed my gas/elec from British Gas to NPower last Dec and have been paying £22 a month DD for my electricity. I received a bill from NPower stating that my electricity DD was being raised to £122 a month based on my meter reading. I had been out when the chap had called to read the meter so had sent the yellow card back with my reading on. I think I wrote it down wrong though and now my bill is saying I have used nearly 7000kWh in the past 6 months.
I rang NPower this morning and they say that my (now correct) reading does not tally with their estimate readings and I need to provide my final official reading from British Gas for them to work from.
If I ring BG, will they still have details of my account and the final reading?

Thanks.

You can only ring them up and see.

If that doesn't work change utility suppliers or change so that you don't pay by DD for a few months i.e. pay in arrears. The last option means you will have to budget yourself to pay your bill.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

    Thanks Olly,
The bill is definitely wrong though, so I don't expect to have to pay the bill. There is no way that, living as a single person in a one-bedroom flat, I use £122 of electricity a month and I haven't increased my usage to justify the leap from the £22 I was paying. In fact, I had been trying to cut down by turning my thermostat down & turning off my TV/DVD & video instead of leaving them on standby.
I don't understand why Npower don't have the final reading from BG if that is what they use as a starting reading though.

Don't forget that the majority of tariffs are cheaper if you pay by DD. So paying in arrears is not a good idea for most people.

Something doesn't ring true about them wanting your last reading from BG. You paid BG up to date when you left last year. That meter reading must have been agreed between BG and NPower. It is too late to do anything now even if it were wrong.

Simply write(don't ring) and say that your meter reading was xxxx on yyyy and they are to base their bill and DD on that reading. If they do not accept your reading they should send a meter reader to verify.

They cannot let their estimated reading overide actual readings

I wouldn't be so sure - I have just had a bill from NPower for £267.93 for my quarterly electricity use which is £89.31 a month - I too live alone and can't see how I can have spent that - My previous bills were also around £22 per month....

If you read my other posts you will see that I have had 13 months of problems with NPower who are a nightmare to deal with and as yet nothing is resolved...

    good luck
