54 plate 2.0 Diesel, 75k on the clock.
Turbo required and quoted £900+
Car showing a value of £2200.
Does it warrant paying this money to get it done? Decisions????

Yes
Otherwise its going to worth pretty much scrap value.0 -
2.0HDI 110BHP? I'd be asking why the turbo needs replacing at only 75K, personally.
If it does need one, a reman turbo can be bought retail from ECP for less than £400.0 -
I've organised recovery to Citroen via our breakdown cover.
Then let them diagnose and decide from there.
The mechanic I use locally wants the same sort of money as Citroen, I may as well have a bit more piece of mind to get it looked at properly.0 -
There are a lot of diesel owners being told their cars need new turbos because they`ve sticky gummed up turbo vanes and acutators and illuminating engine management lights.
The turbos can be cleaned with a proprietary kit or Mr Muscle oven cleaner. (Google it)
They can also be stripped and cleaned by hand or as a last resort a reconditioned turbo can be exchanged.0 -

Exactly.
Without at lleast the symptoms listed how can anybody assist.
The wifes Clio was making a funny noise when changing gear, a kind of screech from the turbo.
I used a High Mileage oil with a high detergent package (apparently) and chucked some additives in the tank, Redex and another I forget the name of I think it was Forte.
After a few weeks the noise went away.
But a stuck variable vane turbo is pretty.common these days especially in locally driven vehicles which an 11 yr old C8 with 75k certainly matches that description.
Only reason I can see for a turbo going on an engine with that sort of mileage is owner abuse, switching off after a long run without allowing a short tickover, overly long service intervals and/or using cheap oil.0 -
Turbo failed, collapsed internally. New turbo with associated parts £1200
Aux Belt Running off due to bottom pully being broken and oil all over cam belt area due to broken seals. New Aux Belt, Timing Belt, Tensioners and Seals
£785
Plus Diag
£50
£2035!
Thoughts? Scrap or Fix?0 -

...Thoughts?...
Find a different garage. One with mechanics, and sensible labour rates.
A 2.0HDI isn't a complicated motor on which to work. Those prices are ludicrous.0
