Help!
I've been trying for weeks to cancel my priemier account and they just won't let me do it!
First they said it must be done online (but you can't), then I was told I needed to see an account advisor in branch but they had no free appointments. Then I called telephone banking and the said they would downgrade to a basic account, and that I could call back when I have a spare 40 mins to go through the complaint to claim it all back.
Well they didn't cancel it so I've just called them back to ask again. The accounts lady told me that it can't be dont over the phone as its a joint account! She says I have to go into branch. It seems rediculous that I need to do this? Plus it's not going to be Ray since my husband is only off on Sunday's and we have 3 children under 5 that would need to come to the hour long appointment! Surely this is not right?
Does anyone have any advise or experience? Could I do this in writing?
Thanks in advance

The Llloyds website terms and conditions - link is below - stateYou may end this agreement, or an account, benefits package or other service under it, at any time by writing to us, visiting one of our branches or phoning us. Where you have not told us in writing, we may require confirmation in writing. You will also be treated as ending this agreement in relation to an account if you do not make a payment into the account within six months of opening it.
So yes, put in writing to them that you want to close it.
Section 12 1 a of their own Ts and Cs states either of the joint account holders can close it. That said, it might be easier if you both write to them and sign off the letter to make it less likely to cause a dispute
Then ring the complaints line 0800 072 3572 and complain about the hassle you have been through to get this closed (cite the issues you mentioned above) and you might get a few quid compo for being messed around.
Worst case, use the current account switch service and go somewhere that gives you £100 odd quid to move and that's some more free money

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Hi Mrsdickson,
Can you clarify if you're looking to downgrade your account or fully close it, please?
In order to downgrade a joint Added Value Account, you'd both need to visit a branch to do this, I'm afraid.
If you'd like to close the account, we can send you an closure pack if you call our PhoneBank team on 0345 3000 000 / 01733 347 007.
If you'd prefer to just write us a letter to close it, you must include the sort code and account number of the account and give clear instructions whether any remaining funds are to be transferred to another internal account. We cannot send funds to an account with another bank so if you don't have another internal account to move the funds to we will send a cheque.
The instruction to close the account can be taken from either party providing there are no indicators on the account suggesting a dispute.
The address to send your request to, should this be what you want to do, is:
Lloyds Bank PLC
Box 1
BX1 1LT.
I hope this helps,
