If you made 'nominal payments' to your internet/phone provider I suspect you would be cut off PDQ!
  • Never had one myself but a friend of mine had one when her cheating ex left and left her with debts. She was struggling and the gas and electric bills mounted so they put a PAYG meter in which she wasn't happy about but it worked out well for her as she came to an agreement with the companies on how much she could afford on top of the bills and she said the debt was soon paid off. She said she was paying about £8 a week on top of her bills. She just had to be careful with heating and only put it on for an hour in morning and an hour at night.
  • Think of prepayment meters as a long term interest free loan. You owe the money but they are allowing you to borrow that amount and repay it interest free over a few years. There is no other company on earth who would do that for you.

Go into any bank and ask them for a 2 or 3 year interest free loan and they would laugh you out the door.

    Whats not to like?

Oh this doesn't half make me wonder about the poor soul that moves in to a prepay meter.. it could certainly explain one energy company bars of going elsewhere for the past 7 years, though, when I moved into find one of these awful prepay meter's installed, I can even remember them wanting 50 quid for the pleasure of taking it away!! :o

What is unreasonable about charging £50 for a meter change? That is a heavily subsidised price.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
