Hi,

I have bought a property which has one single meter for Gas and was wondering what was the procedure to install new meters for each individual flat.

thanks

Contact either your local gas distributor or your gas supplier and they should arrange a quote for the work for you ;)

    Your gas distributor is:
National Grid (North West, East of England, West Midlands, London)
Wales and West (as it says on the tin)
    Scotia (Scotland and South)
Northern (North East, Northern Cumbria and parts of Yorkshire)

Or you could get a corgi gas fitter to split the pipe after the meter and put one new supply to each flat with a coin meter, which is what i have.
bit tricky to set the meter exactly as with price changes and such but as long as your close enough, meters can be purchased of ebay
    hope this helps

Don't forget there are very stringent regulations about gas supply to rented flats - annual safety inspections etc.
  • Thanks guys for your input
Ill be on to British Gas tomorrow to get a quote.
I'm aware of the requirement for annual gas safety certificates - the gas company should sort the meters out to meet legal reqts Id think.
So I'm not too shocked does anyone know a ballpark figure for new meters?
If its too expensive I might have to go down the coin based route, but would rather have less outgoings if possible.

Actually, British Gas' siteworks team are rather good. I tend to use them for commercial installations as they actually get the work done.
