Can I claim back on credit card due to medical reasons?

I booked flights in Feb 2015 with Ryan Air (hope immediately fades!) but due to medical reasons and the imminent loss of my job we as a family cannot make the outlay and I would find it too difficult to travel. I had booked flights, then accommodation and was going to get insurance closer to the departure date (July 2015). Do I have any hope of getting the money back? Halifax Mastercard said no as the 'goods' are still available.
thanks for any help

No, as there is no failure on the part of the provider.0

This is what your travel insurance is for.
Credit Card's S75 only makes the card issuer jointly liable with the merchant. It doesnt create any new liabilities.0 -
No - you cannot claim off the card as there is no failure on the part of the airline.
You should get travel insurance at the point you book for exactly the reasons you are experiencing.
Do you have any friends or family who would be able to buy the holiday from you?0 -

You should have had or obtained travel insurance when you booked.
No good getting it later is it?
Now the peril has occurred, you won't be covered.0 -
I've tried to make a case with Ryan Air, not happening. It feels that I am being forced into making and continuing with a purchase I no longer need or want. any other ideas for making a case?0

You are correct that YOU are the one who's changed your mind (or circs have changed).
Insurance is available for certain specific changes or circs e.g. medical (not changing your mind).
Ryanair are probably the least compassionate company in the world.
Yes your best is to sell the flight and hotel.
I'd start with family and friends like I said before as someone might be minded to help you out. Anyone else will want a discount for being restricted to your particular choice of dates.
Also bear in mind that a 3rd party won't get certain protections (like section 75) by buying off you, so unless it's a friend or famil member then expect to give a healthy dicount for them losing the benefits of NOT dealing with the companies direct (like section 75, loss of EU compensation for delays, volcanic ash etc.).0
