Why doesn't white bread freeze well?

The other day, I treated myself to some Warburtons white Farmhouse loaf. I popped it into the freezer. I took it out to defrost last night as I wanted to use the rest of the bacon to make a bacon sarnie.

It took it out and it falls to bits. Its the same goes for white cobs as the top of them falls off. Never have an issue with wholemeal bread.

I have never had a problem freezing white bread, I do it every week and its fine.

I freeze Kingsmill loaves and shops own white bread rolls.

Never had a problem myself . I buy most of my bread on "Yellow label" at 50% -> 75% off and it gets put straight into the freezer.

This page suggests that if you are freezing for a long time , the original packaging isnt a good idea

Take out just as many slices as you need and put it into a plastic bag till it defrosts.

If you leave it out on the worktop it just goes all brittle and breaks up.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

We have no problem either - freeze white or brown.

We use white bread and rolls daily,
when the groceries are delivered the bread and rolls are portioned and frozen. Defrosted bread etc is stored in a sandwich bag (that we froze it in) inside a plastic box.

Not sure why yours is going wrong

I make my own bread and slice it before going in the freezer, but i put the slices at angles to each other to stop them sticking together..

I wish I was as organised as you, SailorSam. My method of separating the slices is to whack the bag repeatedly against the ceramic floor. :D

Mine is to prise apart with a bread knife and cut a finger or two in the process :D

I freeze white bread in a freezer bag say 4 slices at a time. Take out 30 mins or so before using and it's right as rain

They were talking to a woman on Bbc Breakfast this morning who was saying that's why so many people are sick all the time.
You should be replaceing the white bread for wholemeal.
