Navman F20 Satnav - Copying Favourites?

Options
I have an old Navman F20 satnav which I'm thinking of replacing, but over the years I've saved many locations (favourite pubs etc) as Favourites, and would like to download them for transfer to a new unit.

I have the Navman software installed on my wife's 32 bit laptop (it wont install on my 64 bit desktop!) but cannot find any access to the Favourites!

Does anyone know if (and how) this can be done?

Page 9 of this manual ( http://www.navman.com/docs/manuals/navman-f-series-desktop-manual-en.pdf ) tells you how to backup favourites and settings using the desktop software.

I'm not sure the resulting backup will be any use on a different make/model of satnav, though, often these are in a proprietary format. There's another site you can find via Google that suggests the favourites are stored in a file on a microSD card underneath a sticker on the back of the device, but you have to then extract the data itself, and find a way to import it in a meaningful format onto whatever new device you buy.

Thanks for that DS. I've spent the past 1 1/2 hours installing the Navman desktop on wife's laptop and following the instructions on your link, it appears to create a backup file, but I cannot for the life of me find the file on wife's laptop - and when I close then re-open the Navman desktop and click on Backup/restore, it does not show the file! Found no help on Google or the Navman site either - best offer from Navman was all F series are no longer supported so have a big discount on a replacement up to date model! Might go for that, as their current top of the range is £100 trade-in against at least £160 for a Garmin or Tomtom equivalent 5", or about £230 for their 6" models. I only use this satnav in my weekend toy (main car has built in satnav), so might go for the trade-in.

Well, this request is now redundant! I found the Navman Service Pack 2 file on my PC so, using wife's laptop, tried to update the Navman software on her PC (her laptop and my desktop are networked together). first 2 attempts got so far then failed halfway through installing V3.1, leaving a message saying "if you had problems installing, do a factory reset of the Navman (Preferences/reset/reset all) - which I did, This time the update got about 3/4 of the way through before failing. Now I find that my F20 needs all the settings re-installed (which maps to load, time zone etc) - and my favourites have disappeared.

I'm not allowed to post the words I'm thinking!!!!!!! Loads of country pubs we've found, friends and relatives in UK and Ireland, all vanished. Time for a new satnav methinks, but which one - use the Mio trade-in offer and spend £100, or trade in a load of my Natwest Yourpoints for Amazon vouchers and get a Tom Tom or Garmin!

That's annoying - I had quite a lot of favourites on my TomTom 720 when the internal memory failed, and of course despite being in IT for 20-odd years, I hadn't got a backup. So I spent ages fixing up a memory card with the software, the maps, playing around on 'browse map' to add back in the favourites I could remember, only to find after a couple of weeks of messing around, the internal memory staged a comeback and all my original stuff was there again.

And now the backlight is intermittent, so I can't see the thing anyway and it's back to my even older 710. But that doesn't fit in the bracket that I've made to go in my old car, and the charger socket is different. Great.
