Hi it very much depends how these were held or how they paid out.
If the bank account was held jointly with another person, that person becomes the sole holder on the death of the other party.
If the insurance policies paid out to a nominated person, then they may not be part of the estate so are not counted for probate purposes.
No the bank account was just Mums, and the insurance policies were to bury her, not named for any person.0 -
I'd certainly want to get a full apology in writing from the police for thinking that threatening someone with legal action constitutes 'harassment'.
As beneficiary of a will you are fully entitled to ask about your bequest , particularly when the 'executor's year ' is over.
I think you may have to see a solicitor, otherwise the brothers will mess you around further.
P.S My money is on that ring having gone 'missing'0 -
How were the police involved in a 'civil matter'?“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

I cant afford a solicitor and even if i could this person would just laugh at it. A letter holds no fear for him he has been in and out of trouble all his life.
The police were involved because the tattoed, skin head, builder said this 60 year old granny was harrassing him by sending a letter of intent.0 -
There is no legal requirement for you to have a solicitor to write for the ring which should have by now been given to you. The 'executors' year' is over and the estate should have been settled, certainly with regard to small bequests.
You say the house is to be sold and the proceeds split 3 ways. Is the house sold? Is it even on the market? If not who is living there? Let me guess. They may have transferred the house to themselves already.
When I suggested seeing a solicitor it was not so they could write a letter to get the ring ,it was so he could start proceedings for maladministration of the estate. Don't worry about cost, you are heir to a third of a house so the solicitor will know you are good for the money.
The very fact that they almost certainly lied to the police to get them to 'scare you off' means something dodgy is afoot!0 -
Could be that, that particular visit was not logged at the station!

I thank you for that reply, you seem to be right on my track there. I will go to see the solicitor. Rosie0

I would also raise an official complaint with the police. They have a complaints procedure.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Maybe you should look at why your mother made him executor. Whether he has tattoos and a skinhead doesn't make him bad. Nothing will be distributed until everything is finalised so maybe, in your mother's memory, you should stop slating the people who she cared about and who were there for her in her final hours.
I really dislike my brother being slated on an level let alone a public forum!0 -
