Monday 20th April - What small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important:money:

    Morning all :)
Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy, and ((hugs)) to Jojo.
Nice and sunny today, but cold first thing.

    Jobs for today:
    Check banks Done, no surprises
Put bread machine on Done, granary bread today :)
Do some work for business Done :)
Watch ebay item which is finishing today. No bids yet unfortunately, but it is a large item and I assumed when I put it on that I would need to relist it at least once. Relisted
Do some housework, at least give the bathroom a good clean Gave the bathroom a makeover
HM meals from stores, and aiming for a NSD Well, I didn't buy any food, but bought some bits for the house and garden which I have been meaning to do for ages (nothing exciting, a new loo brush was one such item :rotfl: ) Also bought some paint for some small bits of furniture that I am quite excited about rejuvenating, but that is a business cost :)
Water anything that needs it later, as the garden is very dry for the time of year :(Done, another of my must have items was a small sprinkler for the veg patch, as I broke my previous one last year. So, garden sprinkled, and pots all done with the watering can. My shopping spree also consisted of some stuff to put cats off peeing (or worse ) on the garden, a battery for the carbon monoxide alarm and a box thing to hide the bathroom cleaners etc, and keep them out of baby GD's clutches - we know how to live here :rotfl:

Also did meter readings and submitted them online
Did a survey for Sainsburys which will allegedly earn me 100 extra nectar points
Posted 2 ebay sales and birthday pressies for SiL and DiL who both have birthdays this week :)
The other ebay buyer hadn't paid at that point, but now has, so I will need to queue at the bloomin post office AGAIN tomorrow :(

Right, more coffee, then I must get on!

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Morning folks!

Thanks to ziggy for starting us off

JoJo - sorry to hear about the break up but glad that you can look at it positively.

FatVonD - I apologise for posting so much about my long-handled secateurs :)

Gorgeous sunny day here. At work so pretty much a standard list:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Charge phone in work
    • Check online banking and reconcile spreadsheet - done. Has been a hideously spendy month but hope that we are keeping on top of it. Helps that OH is starting to earn a little
    • Tend to garden
    • Bit of housework
    • Printed out instructions on how to get to hospital for tomorrow - done
    • Make bread
    And erm, that's about it!

    Have a good one all

    Good morning campers!
Uneventful, but pleasant weekend - the most money-saving bit of which was using our John Lewis vouchers for free coffees & cakes, thus a £9.30 bill for free. Had a look at their tech department, but mr f decided he'd save a little bit more before buying whatever little bit of a gizmo he's after, so as not to be tempted to put it on a credit card.
    Today's small frugal things:
*Read energy meters & updated spreadsheets. Looking much better now the heating has been switched off.
*Bagged up fund-raising fudge I made yesterday - looks very pretty, despite using recycled ribbons & home-made labels. It's made 7 prizes for fractionally under £2 of ingredients, so works out much cheaper than donating a bottle of wine.
*Use-it-up - Still going strong with this. Mascara going in a mug of boiling water every morning to get last dregs out, chicken & mushroom pie-base taken out of freezer to which I shall add a mashed potato top tonight, stew & chilli also taken out of freezer for tomorrow, which is jacket potato night. It's a simple equation, each time we have a 'Use-it-up' meal, that's a protein-based item that we don't need to include on the shopping list for that week.
*Saved a bit of energy by sharing bath water & it was HOT!! New boiler is FAB!!
*Saved a bit more on the electricity bill by doing laundry overnight on Economy 7 tariff, re-loading washer again for another load tonight & pegging everything out in the glorious sunshine for line-drying.
*Earned another £10 for 'best comment' on an online survey forum I'm on at the moment. (Can't remember even what it was.....must have had a wise moment). Anyway, updated my signature as am keeping a cumulative total of all my survey earnings this year.
*Won competition for free VIP tickets - forgot I'd entered it, so nice surprise.
    Still to do:
    *Water all veggies.
*Pot up hopefully 100s more little plantlets. (Will take radio down to greenhouse for a bit of 'Planet Rock'....am sure I will pot up more quickly if I'm doing greenhouse karaoke power ballads!)
    *Sow beetroot.
*Find old polytunnel so I can get lettuces planted outside this week.
That's it for me. The garden jobs will take a long time & we're going out tonight.
JOJO - Dumping by text? Classy or what?! Not! My opinion for what its worth is that anyone who opts for this method of terminating a relationship is never 'the one'. But the next one might be.......I'd all but given up on men before I met mr f. You honestly never know who is around the corner x

    :D

I'm back at work today and still feeling amazingly chilled, stuff that should have got done while I wasn't here didn't despite a round Robin email reminding everyone but I don't care :rotfl:

I bought lunch on the way in this morning but will pop out in a minute to buy provisions for the fridge so I can make stuff here for the rest of the week. I've snacked on the free fruit this morning and had several cups of tea, I can't believe how many tea bags I used at home last week!

I abandoned a shopping delivery last night because we have stuff in the freezer but what we don't have is snack-type stuff for my son so I may do one tonight with those stuffs and some cat food to bump it up to the minimum order amount.

No news on the house, still hoping no news is good news. Any news on your offer yet, La Escosa?

Managed to pick up a Jo Nesbo book from the free library that I don't think I have read before, I thought I had read the all but hopefully not :)

JoJo I remember being dumped by somebody with no word at all. We'd usually go out on Wednesdays and Saturdays with him calling during the day to make arrangements. I'd been pottering about on the Saturday and suddenly noticed it was about 7.30pm and there had been no phone call. It dawned on me I'd been dumped but hadn't actually noticed :rotfl: I gave it about 5 seconds thought and then got on with my pottering and it sounds like you're in that place too!

Like they say, you've got to kiss a lot of frogs! I could have met my lovely DH 7 months earlier had I not been dating a complete @hole (DH had 'winked' at me on a dating site 7 months previously but I'd not gone back to check), sometimes it's best to just shove the wrong ones out of the door and shout 'next'!

  • Hi everyone,
Today me and DS1 have started to make a papier mache piggy bank - we 'll paint it tomorrow when it's dry - and I've got my £1 coin ready to put in it! Starting today I'm saving a pound a day to help out buying Christmas presents without dipping back into the credit cards. I wish I'd started in January but better late than never...
Started April 2015: CC Debt - £5620
DFW hoping to start saving as soon as debt is cleared

Thank you! Although I can't take the credit for it. I got the idea from the pound a day challenge on here. I didn't have a sealed pot so took the idea of making one. Frugal and fun!
