...New to all this -is it all surveys ? .Are there any work at home jobs that would be exactly same as say working in an office ? Ie a home based job where i would have to log in a certain number of hours and get paid by the hour ?

Tens of threads on this forums about this and no it isn't always about surveys but may be majority.
What you say is though is slightly different and I don't think there is one. Many would do it if there was I suppose. That would be a job where you work from home and unlikely to be found by signing up on websites.
You might look at these though.

Yes they do exist
My current job I work 31 hours (reduced at my request from 40 ) fixed hours in what is essentially a customer service/technical support role for a household name entertainment and communications company.
I'm paid an hourly rate - paid holiday , pension, free company products in my home and commission on any sales -although I'm not technically in a sales role and do exactly the same job as my colleagues who work in the company's call centres.
So yes these jobs do exist.
My contract says I can't discuss the client's name on the internet but a search of the forum for past posts will show the details as this outsource company has been discussed several times in the past on this forum in relation to their work from home project.
I've done the same job for seven years so it's stable employment.
I can't name my own client but I can add I also know of several other companies who offer similar roles including a large home shopping organization, a large high street catalogue company and a car hire company.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I have worked part time from home for many years as do several people I know, some who even work full time. I do web search evaluation and have done call centre work too, both paid by the hour.
A quick search on this forum will give you lots of ideas. I also find The Money Shed a very helpful forum for work at home too.0 -
There are many such jobs that are comfortable for work at home environment and they exist in every work stream.
Search online you would find a lot of these sources.0 -
In case when freelancers' earning depends on the result of their work freelancers have to work more than office workers and sometimes they even don't have holidays.0

Most of the roles mentioned above aren't self employed (I assume that is what you mean rather than freelance) but are PAYE and observe UK employment law regarding holidays, sick pay, pension provision etc. Certainly mine does. I also get an extra week's holiday on top of usual provision linked to years of service and performance bonus monthly.
Self employment is a trade off with more scope for savings on tax and flexibility -like every other job one size doesn't fit all.
I work hard, no harder than when I worked in an office - and my productivity is probably higher as I have fewer distractions.
As for working harder at home ........ I'm better motivated at home as I don't need to deal face to face with office politics and egos and the like but can get on with things without that nonsense. I was reminded of this recently when I attended a training course and was exposed to some of it with a manager making silly immature - and technically wrong comments. Far easier to roll your eyes and move on remotely than in an office
On the plus side - I work in far more comfort, better chair/desk, I can regulate the temp to suit me, wear what I'm comfortable in and the coffee is far superior- the staff canteen is pretty good too LOL . It means I can focus on my job and not the minor irritations that are common in most offices.
It's not perfect and some people find working at home is too isolated and need the "water cooler" experience and company but there are for me more advantages than disadvantages.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

The newest trend today, is that you can do all of this without your computers or laptops but through your mobile phones, so wherever you are, you can still earn money.0
