Electromax heatrae sadia - help! How does it work?

Hello,
Have recently moved into a rental property - 2 bed flat- which has a heatrae sadia Electromax heater.

I'm really looking for some advice on how it works and the most efficient way to run it!

I have finally figured out how to program the heating side and have set it to come on for a couple of hours in the evening. However I really don't understand the water heating aspect. It appears to be entirely separate. When I moved in the water heating switch was on all the time. Should it be left on permanently? It says that water is only heated during off peak hours so if it's left on does it just heat for a few hours and then stop? Is it more efficient to leave it on all the time or to just switch it on before I need it? The shower is not electric so this could lead to some very cold mornings!

The energy tariff is economy 10 with eon if that helps. Any help or advice much appreciated as I've never had a system like this before!

Thanks
Allie

    Right hand side, downloads.

  • - instructions here
    - E10 is the more expensive end of E7
    - E10, you get 3 off peak periods per day, so all electricity at the off peak rate not a dual tariff system as in E7
    - E10 or E7 it will pull 45a during the day it should use the 16a supply

Thank you. I did actually start with Google and those instructions as there was literally nothing left with the heater. However, I still don't get this very basic idea of whether the switch should be left I all the time or switched on as needed! (It's like any intelligence I have doesn't want to help with this)

They say that the water will be heated from an off peak supply and as the e10 has off peak periods a day (thanks Richie-from-the-boro) it will use this cheaper rate but does that mean I should be leaving it switched on all the time or just turning it on when needed ? (mainly for shower once a day though nice to have hot water for dishes etc)

If it's charging overnight on cheap rate then a full hot tank will stay hot all day, if properly insulated.

  • Because the 'wet electric' transfers heat via water it should be pre-set to draw cheap rate leccy during the daytime periods. However using the 'boost' setting will heat the water at the expensive day-rate. So looking at your panel the left hand side has a (1) hot water on and a (2) hot water boost on switch. The (1) hot water on switch should be permanently on and illuminated [the water heater will heat up whenever an “Off-Peak” electrical supply period is available] and the (2) hot water boost on switch [a non-latched maximum of one hour] should unless you are desperate never be switched on. As macman says the standing heat loss of about 1.73kWh per 24 Hours is efficient enough not to worry about - any heat lost over the 24 hours is not really lost - it is decanted into the dwelling. Best of luck.

Hi AllieCat and welcome to the Forums. Thought I'd pop on with a bit of information about your meter.

Economy 10 meters are designed mainly for all electric properties with storage heaters and electric water immersion heaters. As Richie says, they give 10 hours of cheaper off peak electricity for heating and water heating. This is split into three periods during the evening, in the afternoon and at night. To work, the meter will be wired into the heating/water heating circuits at the property.

The actual times the off peak rates are active will depend on the region and make of meter. There'll also be a period within the off peak times when all electricity used is charged at the lower prices. Again, this will depend on the meter and region. For instance, with some of the later Economy 10 meters, all usage during the 10 off peak hours will be charged at the lower prices.

So you can make the most of the off peak times, it's best to find out exactly when they're active. We can soon let you know if you contact us. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer. I'll be happy to give you the times and any other information that might help. Although there isn't much information on our website about these types of meter, there's stuff to help you save money by saving energy. When you've a minute, might help to check the 'saving energy' pages out.

Hope the move to your new flat wasn't too stressful AllieCat and that you've settled in ok.
