Bit I don't understand from all those saying it is okay to go to the concert due to it being an unfit to work note etc.

Why then would it be an issue plastered all over twitter or facebook ?

You dont have an unfit to plaster social life over facebook line either ?

    Whats the difference ?

Excellent point - "it's ok, but don't tell anyone" - contradictory?

I would look at the bigger picture and the relationship between employee and employer. If they are likely to be ok with it then go and don't hide the fact you have been. If the employer is likely to react badly then think about whether the concert is worth losing your job over. Even if you have two years service it is very easy to be managed out of a job should the employer be so inclined.

Therapeutically, the concert is a good idea for many reasons. So it is a shame the OP the has to gauge how his employer will react, but that's the nature of the beast I suppose.

A real shame actually and a sign of the stigma and ignorance surrounding mental health. I doubt people would be saying the same if the OP were off sick with cancer or any other terminal condition.
  • maybe your are now OK and able to go back to work.
Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.

Why are there two people with different usernames but the same avatar on here?

Why do you think two users with a low post count both have the avatar MSE hands out to people when they first join up?

Personally I can't think of anything beyond the fact that we both are one and the same.

Apparently when you sign up now you are given a choice of a dozen or so different avatars, so there are a lot of new(ish) posters with the same avatars.

It's been like this for a good few months and caused lots of confusion and accusations at the time it was introduced.

I agree re the stigma attached to mental health, but it is still commonplace and the OP needs to look at the reality of how their employer will react. If it's going to upset the employer then I would advise against going. There's one thing worse than having depression and that's having depression and no job.

I got accused of this on another thread. It's like something from a Scooby Doo episode.

Being signed of work isn't a barrier to undertaking activities of living, in any case join a union if you are having to ask this question.

That is true. However, with less that two years service the employer could dismiss for any reason that does not amount to unlawful discrimination or no reason at all. Being off sick is not a protected characteristic. Whilst it is generally worthwhile to join a union it is difficult to see what they could do if this were to happen.

I agree, going out and about may well be beneficial with certain MH problems but nothing forces the employer to see it that way. You only have to look at some of the posts in this thread to see that some people have the opposite view!
