    Simples:

    1. Write them a one-line letter cancelling the contract

    2. Stop the DD.

I did this, and they had a hissy fit because they said I hadn't cancelled as per the contract. They wrote stroppy letters and set debt collectors on me for the payments for the subscription they claimed was still running. I blocked all calls from the debt collector's dialling code and challenged Sky to take me to court. They didn't.

It cant be, Sky is paid in advance and it is not a credit agreement.
Sky do not write onto your credit file.

If the number of bank accounts and credit cards I've taken out since then is anything to go by then no. Not that I would let such considerations bother me anyway, if a company is being @rsey I will deal with them accordingly regardless of what they threaten.

Anyway, they'd need to get a CCJ against me before they could affect my credit rating. Good luck with that Rupert!

This is what customers are up against:

    1. Sky changed their cancellation t&c's last year, to prevent cancellation by letter or email via My Sky, without subsequent verification by telephone.

They've set their t&c's to demand that there must be a "conversation"- either by telephone or "Live Chat".

    2. From 1st July 2015, they are introducing late payment fees, including charges for failed direct debits.
If you miss any payments you owe to us including for any Sky service we may charge you a reasonable fee, or interest at the yearly equivalent of 4% over Barclays Bank plc’s base rate for the whole period of any late payment, to compensate us for you breaking these Conditions. Any interest is worked out daily. We may also charge you a reasonable fee for handling any payment instruction that is cancelled, returned to us because you do not have enough funds in your account or is not cleared by your bank. Details of these fees can be found on sky.com/latepaymentfee. These fees will not be applied to any amount you have not paid because it is the subject of an ongoing dispute between us. You will be responsible for paying all reasonable debt recovery fees/charges incurred in recovering your debt, including fees charged by any debt collection company we use. We will send you a reminder or call you before applying any late payment fees or instructing a debt collection company.

So, customers are complaining- as they have been for several years- that Sky are making it difficult for them to cancel their subscriptions, thus managing their budgets, whilst Sky intend to impose additional fees on those who don't pay!

if you can cancel by live chat then just do it that way - easy and not scary like a phone call can be

They can write whatever cobblers they like in their T&C's. If I have a contract with a company and I cancel that contract by giving the appropriate notice in writing to the company's registered address then I would defy them to argue in any court in the land that the contract had not been cancelled.

And in the unlikely event of it being determined that the contract hadn't been cancelled, so what? If I ceased using the service what have they lost? And even then, if they can dream up some kind of loss to claim for, they failed to mitigate their loss, which they could've done by simply accepting my notice of cancellation.

And writing additional fees into the T&C's is one thing, collecting them is quite another.

Read the articles. That's exactly what this guy did: he was there for 1 1/2 hours and they still refused to cancel it.

  • When Mrs NM came to live with me, I called sky and said she is leaving as the is moving with me, and I already had sky. They disconnected her with minimal fuss.

I then called back and said that I needed to cancel my sky, as I was going to live with Mrs NM. 2 x sky cancelled, £80 per month saved in about 5 minutes
