Asus eee pc 701

have any of you seen or heard of this. Apparently its out later this year and sounds too good to be true

its a mini laptop with a 7inch screen runs on linux apparently - never used linux before.

It apparently has wifi and surfs the web adequately

it sounds perfect for my needs and ultra portable.

if any one knows anything about it I would be grateful for your opinions

  • I am also very excited about the Asus Eee PC. Most ultra-portable laptops are regular laptops miniaturised at enormous cost, but the Eee PC is of a much lower spec hence $199. Linux will also bring down the cost but modern Linux is a world away from Linux of a few years ago and is very easy to use.

The Eee PC is one of several new low-powered, low-cost highly-portable laptops. The Palm Foleo (but is $600) and the VIA NanoBook are the two other prominent products.

It was slated for release in mid August, but it looks like it might be September now. I'm definitely getting one! The Wikipedia article is fairly informative, particularly on the possible downsides, such as the battery life (only three hours) and viewing more recent websites at a lower resolution. Still, $199!

I bet it isnt $199 here!!!

Having done a bit more research it seems it will be released worldwide at the same time!

I stay in hotels a fair bit with work and most have wifi these days as do cafes bars etc...

Its brilliant! I have an HTC smartphone now and I have discovered the power of wifi (preferably free)

So do I! Id guess that it will be around £199, as that appears to be, roughly, the trend when converting US computer stuff to the UK. It looks interesting though, and Id have thought that it will do what 95% of people want when considering buying a laptop.
