Would you choose to claim tickets for free or carry on trying to win them?

Just curious....
Do people really prefer to win tickets to something that you can get free tickets for?
I noticed a comp for 250 pairs of Grand Designs Live tickets, posted yesterday, has 19 thanks, yet the post I made for 1000 free tickets (apologies, yes it's in the wrong section
), the day before yesterday, has only 6 thanks (I guess thanks are only a rough guide, but assuming that this does at least mean not many people got tickets and plenty are continuing to try to win them).
This got me thinking.....I get that it's more fun to win tickets (for "the buzz") than to just get them instantly for free, but I didn't think it would actually put people off from claiming free tickets
(Or it is simply that people can't go on Saturday 2nd, so they need to win tickets for a different day? In which case ignore my random musings completely
)
I have seen this before for other events though - lots of comps for events where tickets are also offered for free, so in general, would you:
Claim free tickets and stop entering comps
Claim free tickets and continue entering comps
Not claim free tickets and continue entering comps (so you only go to the event if you win)

I seldom visit other sections of MSE, so I might not even be aware that there were free tickets available. Not that I have entered for these anyway, as it is not something that interests me.
Most of the tickets that I try and win are not available for free anyway, since I enter for theatre tickets, concert tickets, festival tickets etc.0 -
Sorry Marg2k8, by wrong section I meant I'd posted it in the competitions section (main board), so any compers would have seen it (but technically it's not a competition, so I shouldn't have)0

There have been/are lots of comps for tickets as well as free ones, this closed comp which was on the board almost 4 weeks only totalled 29 thanks and 207 views

People who enter by end-date will see the post for free ones around 6 days after the comp for 250 pairs so that might go some way to explain the number difference in addition to choice of day.0 -

Everything else being equal I would go with the first option if I was aware of free tickets for something I would attend but I wouldn't go searching for free ones so would be much more likely to see a competition for them.0 -
Why try to win them if you can get them for free?
If you can get me free tickets for Thriller Live, The Harrogate Flower Show, Wicked (I can probably think of lots more) I will take them. :T
Anything that takes my fancy I can be bought/bribed/ and blackmailed for, I have no shame me

I did get the free tickets, received a email but they are only for the first weekend so I have also entered for anytime tickets and always enter for VIP tickets if I can make the event.Silver Surfer, Always Smiling

Good Luck and Thank You0 -
Why waste time entering for something that is a certainty with free tickets when that time could be spent entering other competitions ?
As for the thanks disparity- perhaps some people didn't thank you simply because it was technically in the wrong section ?
Or if they use thanks as a marker for comps entered - didn't thank as it isn't an "entry" as such.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Because some people see the words 'win' and just have to go for them , wether they can get them free or notSpeak your mind.- Nobody else will do it for you.0
