Someone once told me she used a squirt of lemon juice with the water and olive oil to keep it fresh, although I am not sure if it is the lemon itself or the preservative in in it that does the trick?

The acid in the lemon will help, but you'd need more than a squirt.

I imagine everything would taste of lemons too. I would stick to just oil and use a bit less.
