Substitute Frylight?

My bottle of Frilight is running out and I am trying to lose weight. Do you think it could be topped up with olive oil?

Yes. That's what I did and have been doing for about two years now. :)

Thanks, good to know. Just done this and turned out fine. Might be more than 1kcal per spray but has to be much better than tipping it on!!

I top them up with vegetable or sunflower oil. Not really that keen on the taste of olive oil, and for just a couple of spritzes, I'm not too fussed about whether they're the healthiest of oils!

dragonlily - if it stops misting and 'squirts' then just clear the sprayer nozzle with a clean needle.

The reason I change over to olive oil was because Frylight was ruining my baking sheets. It was creating a film that wouldn't budge over time.
I like putting my own oil in because it doesn't have anything added.

I checked the ingredients on mine and it's about 50% fat (FryLight) so I use half oil and half water and just give it a really good shake before spraying.

Seems much better for my pans! Must be all those emulsifying chemicals - if it does that to pans what must it be doing to my insides?

So are you using oil/water in the original Frylight container?

Only tonight I was decanting the remains of one into another as it had stopped spraying properly and it's too expensive to waste. I must try the needle to clear the nozzle trick.

I've made my own for years, instead of doing half and half, I use one part oil to 5 parts water. You just have to give it a good shake before using it. I still use the original bottle. Heaven forbid anyone should look at the date on it, best before unreadable month in 2011.

I'd recommend you use up what's in the bottle before refilling. I found an old bottle at the back of the cupboard and when I looked inside it wasn't mouldy but it didn't look great. No point in contaminating new oil with old :)
You can also buy oil spray bottles from various kitchenware emporiums

How long does that mix last? If it takes a while to use it all up, the water could be bad. Without a preservative, water is a great breeding ground for pathogens.
