Opening a savings account when non UK resident

Hi everyone
I have a question about opening a UK savings account when not resident in the UK.
I currently have an HSBC current account and HSBC fixed rate savings account. I've noticed that other banks seem to be offering much better interest rates so I'd like to move most of my savings out of HSBC to somewhere that pays better perhaps Chartered Savings or Virgin Money.
Is it possible to open a new account when not resident? Does anyone have any experience of doing this? I still have a UK address (Well my Dad's place!).
Thanks for your time.

I think you will struggle. Most accounts require you to be resident in the UK to be eligible to open them (although if you are an existing account holder you may be able to keep those accounts you hold when you leave the UK).
Charter Savings Bank (since you mention them) require you to reside in the UK. You can check others eligibility requirements quite easily by having a quick look at the appropriate section in their T&Cs.0 -
Thanks Masonic
I'd checked the eligibility criteria and it stated you had to be UK resident. I was hoping that still having a UK address of sorts and not having permanent residence in Japan might mean I could sneak in.0
