    Hi Olivia,

    Few questions ...

What is your average monthly income?

    What city are you in?

You should be able to claim some Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit and Working Tax Credits.

If you input your figures into www.entitledto.co.uk you will get a better idea of what you can claim x

I dont think you would be expected to find a smaller flat as a one bedroom flat for someone over 25 is considered reasonable.
  • I'm in a similar position and am wodering also whether running my business from home would have any disadvantage in claiming housing benefits?

  • It's just a modest 1 bed flat/studio that I'll be moving into. I'm back at my parents temporary but will be moving out at the end of the month.

As you are only in a one bed property, you should be fine. You are not using any rooms exclusively for the purposes of the business, so they should not make a deduction for this reason.

  • Many thanks for the reply :T

I have a website selling small items. So, if these were stored in my bedroom on shelves, there would be no problem even if they were taking 1/3 of the room up just because the room's main purpose is that of a bedroom? What would be the case if I moved into a 2 bed and had one room solely for the purpose of business?

I do know a place near to where I'm planning on moving which has storage space/small office for £5 per week so maybe I could go with that? I also need to think about insurance but my main concern at the mo' is claiming some reduction in my rent/council tax
