Halifax - online banking shows a card I don't have.

I have a current account and Cancer Research Visa card with the Halifax. I just logged on to check my current account and my online banking is showing another card - a Mastercard. I don't have and have never had a Mastercard with anyone let alone Halifax. I can't see any details on this card except the credit limit and the fact that the last payment was in May for about £70 (the transaction details don't go back that far) so I can only assume that this is someone else's card. I can only see the last 4 digits of the card and they're totally different to my Visa one.

I'm not happy at all about this and can't see a way to contact the Halifax online so will call them from work tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has had anything similar?

    Hi

Funnily enough I have posted a thread that although is about Halifax not cancelling my card, I mention that they issued me two cards by mistake. I don't want to hijack your thread, so sticking to your point:

Three years ago I orded a Charity card (Visa) and they sent me that and a normal Halifax one by mistake; while this is a different issue in that I did actually receive both cards (one invalidated immediately when I told them), perhaps this is a mistake they keep making? Though that doesn't solve the Mastercard issue!

And when I checked my credit file both cards appeared as active with both having 4K limits on them. I phoned them tonight to try sort this out.

Halifax are changin all their cards from Visa to Mcard. You will have a different card number as it is a different card. You will shortly receive a new mastercard in the post, it will superceed your visa card, and you just use it the same, with the same PIN no, credit limit nad history on thecard. They create the Mcard, then they send it you in the post, thats why you can see it on your online system. Don't worry, sit tight and continue usind your Visa, then when your Mcard comes use that instead and distroy your visa. Its just a simple switch over, nothing to worry about, it s happening to everyin time. HTH

    Thanks youknowwho.

It would have been nice of them to tell me about this, especially as they only sent me a replacement Visa card a few weeks ago. I barely use the card as it is and I don't really want a Mastercard, so I'll still 'phone them in the morning to see if I can close my account if they've not produced/sent the card yet.

Do you know if this means they'll change my debit card to Mastercard/Maestro too?

Not sure why you want to get rid of it just because it has changed to a Mastercard. They both have the same acceptance levels. They changed from Maestro debit cards to Visa debit cards a few years ago, so they won't be going back.
